Dr. Rachel Rehema Kabunga is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Head of Clinical Services and Training at Dr. Arunga’s Eye Hospital (DAEH), Mbarara. She provides comprehensive ophthalmic care, with expertise in medical retina, diabetic eye disease, phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and laser therapy.

She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, in 2009, and her Master of Medicine (MMed) in Ophthalmology from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda, in 2019. She is currently a PhD Fellow in Ophthalmology at MUST.

At DAEH, Dr. Kabunga leads clinical service delivery, staff training and professional development, and the Ophthalmic Assistant Training Program. She is also an Academic and researcher, involved in mentoring and lecturing Ophthalmology residents at MUST. She has published more than 5 peer-reviewed papers with interests in diabetic retinopathy, implementation science, and the use of artificial intelligence to improve access to diabetic eye screening in resource-limited settings.
